This Month's Resilience Brief
A few months ago, this author penned a Resilience Brief assessing the cost of a serious cyber incident for SMEs and the short- and medium-term actions to deploy to protect against cyber threats. For this edition of our Resilience Brief, our partner Cyberzen revisits the importance of three immediate and operational actions: making backups, performing updates, and managing passwords.
The figures are alarming: 60% of SMEs that fall victim to cyber-attacks go out of business within the following 18 months, with an average loss of 27% of their annual turnover. A recent example illustrates this reality: an SME from the French region of Britanny, a victim of ransomware, successfully sued its service provider for failing to implement a disconnected backup. That failure resulted in one week of business interruption and over β¬62,000 in damages, after already investing β¬190,000 in renewing its IT infrastructure, which was supposed to enhance its security.
Why It Matters. Without IT, the business stops. No one has a 'paper and pencil' scenario anymore, nor can we realistically envision it.
What Now? This guide has been designed to provide concrete, accessible, cost-effective actions that can be implemented immediately.
